Research Program Manager
Rachel M. Brian, MPH is a Research Program Manager supporting Dr. Sarah Kopelovich’s CBT for psychosis program of research. She holds a master’s degree in Public Health through the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education at the University of Michigan and has a bachelors in Sociology from Michigan State University.
For close to two decades prior to joining the SPIRIT Lab, Rachel supported research and intervention development at Dartmouth College, the University of Michigan, Johnson & Johnson, Michigan State University, and with other research teams at the University of Washington.
Rachel implements user centered design and other qualitative methods to develop the user experience of mobile applications and websites including navigation, look and feel, and content for intervention programming and has tested the acceptability, feasibility, and efficacy of those programs in field trials and RCTs.
Rachel has extensive experience bringing multidisciplinary teams together to create and test custom technologies for those with lived experience of serious mental illness. Some of the past projects she has directed include; mobile sensing to infer human behavior to predict early relapse, and also to predict violent ideation among inpatients, on-demand self-help smartphone applications to support symptom management, state-wide implementation of technology-based systems, and online recruitment of voice-hearers across the United States. Additionally, Rachel has written individually tailored health behavior change programs for major insurance companies, managed the coordination of implementing a state mandated web-based background check system for all long-term care facilities across Michigan, supported video-based content development of nutritional programming for low-income mothers, and helped evaluate programming offered to children attending public schools in Flint, Michigan.
